The RSMeans Expansion Index is a 1+ year "look ahead" at the construction marketplace. It indicates whether a location's construction volume is expected to expand or shrink in the upcoming 12-18 months.

• Locations on the map with blue markers are shrinking construction markets with an Expansion Index of 1.0 or less.

• Locations with yellow markers are expanding construction markets with an Expansion Index greater than 1.0.

• "Hot spots" - locations that are rapidly growing, having an Expansion Index greater than 5.0 - are indicated with red markers. Construction volume in these locations is expanding dramatically in the next 12-18 months.

Clicking on a marker on the map reveals the exact value of that Metro Area's Expansion Index.

To click on a specific marker you may need to zoom in. You can zoom and pan different locations on the map by using the zoom and pan arrows located in the bottom right corner of the map.
